It's been a big couple of months!
Red Hill Riders are proud to announce that we have a few new champions in the club:
- Ellie Wale is now the U/17 XCO National Champion, Liam Jeffries is the U/15 XCO National Champ, Luke Fetch and Jess Wiggan both put in massive efforts
to put themselves in the top 5 of their categories.
- We also had a large number of entrants into the Otways Oddysey. Ellie Wale, Liam Jeffries, and Jack Steele all won their categories with Jack Gardner and Denise Wale getting a podium too.
Upcoming Events
Johnny Horrox has drawn our attention to a Music Festival held at the Briars on March 18th in support of road safety. The event is called Crossy's Gig, more info can be found by clicking the flyer above.
Other News
Earlier in the year the club received a grant from Park Victoria to go towards trail building tools. The club now has an arsenal of tools at our disposal which we will be able to use on the new trail that Adrian Wale is building in the Dromana Secondary School grounds for the Victorian Schools Cyclling Championships (Eastern Zone). We thank Parks Vic very much for their generosity.
06.01.12 - Round 1 Victorian State XC Series - Ellie Wale
Check out the RHR forums for a great race report from Ellie from the Wimmera Hills Winery, Elmhurt race.
"I kept turning my head worried at who I was going to see. I was about 1km from the finish line riding along a firetail when I looked around and saw absolutely no one."
Congratulations to all the RHR riders who competed in what sounds like a gruelling race!

23.12.11 - Holiday Season Rides
Given that many people have time off work and such, there are a likely to be a few extra rides happening in the area.
The first of these that we know of is a Boxing Day Ride, leaving Red Hill School at 9:00am.
Also of note is that there will still be a beginners ride happening this Sunday (Xmas Day) however it will be leaving at 8:00 instead. The beginners ride will also be running on New Years Day at the
normal time of 9:00am.
Check the forums and the Red Hill Riders Facebook Page for more rides that might be happening as the days go by.
06.12.11 - RHR Xmas Party

Hello RHR Members,
Christmas is upon us and as such, it is time for the Red Hill Riders Christmas Party!
Date: Saturday December 10th 2011
Time: 7:00pm
Venue: Red Hill Football/Cricket(/Mountain Bike) Club Rooms (Red Hill Showgrounds)
We haven't had much time to prepare for this, but we have managed to put together something special for you:
- Food: We will have a BBQ sizzling away on the night, and will provide an array of salads.
- Drinks: Cold drinks will be available at (very reasonable) bar prices.
- Entertainment: Paul Woseen from The Screaming Jets will be playing live on the night.
- Santa will be making an appearance for the kids.
Gifts from Santa also need to be pre-arranged, again, let us know.
Can You Help?
At this stage we are scrambling to get everything together and there a few things that we are looking for:
- A PA System (let us know on one of the contact methods above if you have access to one, any size will be considered).
- Someone with contacts at a Butcher, Baker, Catering, etc, that might be able to help us out (At this stage we'll be paying full price for everything).
- Anything else you think we might find useful, entertaining or fun on the night?
22.11.11 - Gentle/Beginner Rides

We've started a new regular ride to cater to new riders, and those who have been away from the sport for a while and don't think they can quite keep
up with the other regular rides yet. Each Sunday at 9:00 we will be departing from the Red Hill Primary School Carpark (See below for more details) and heading off
on a variety of rides which are designed to ease you into the sport (at least when compared to the other regular rides). The rides will take you through about 10-15km's of roadside trails
and fire roads in the Red Hill Area over 2-2.5 hours, arriving back at the carpark at around the same time as the other regular rides in time to have a coffee at the store.
Check out the forums for more info and some maps of the rides to date.
20.07.11 - Working Bee

Mark down Saturday the 6th of August in your diaries! As friends of the Arthurs Seat state park, we are going to start contributing to the area by undertaking regular working bees. Likely to be a monthly event, we will be helping out in the 'Summit Burn Block'/Charlottes Pass area by clearing and removing unwanted vegetation.
There will be two, two hour sessions on the day, one starting at 8:30am and one starting at 11:00 am and each session is limited to 10 people each. Participants are required only to be wearing sturdy boots, long pants, and have a pair of gloves. Parks Victoria will be providing all tools and guiding us as to what our role is.
This is a prime opportunity to show the local community what RHR is made of and get some more publicity for the club. Remember also that by showing PV what a good job we can do, we will have a stronger voice in the proposition and development of trails in the area.
If you can attend this working bee (and we need you to be fairly sure you can attend, rather than tentative), please contact Phil Smale on his mobile (0415 484 643), or at Sealy's in Frankston (03 9770 5500), and he will add you to the list.
A big thanks to Phil and all the others who have had a hand in getting this going. Cheers Guys!
09.07.11 - Parking and News
It's been a while since updates, but that's not to say that little has been happening at RHR HQ.
Red Hill Consolidated School have been kind enough to allow us the use of their car park on Arthurs Seat Road. We have had troubles in the past with the lack of parking on Flinders Rd (opposite the shops), with the shop keepers expressing their concern that there are few parks left for other customers. We now have the solution and ask that on Sunday rides, please park in the "upper" carpark at RHCS (shown in red in the image below)

In other news, the trails team have been very busy in mapping the myriad trails that we use, talking to Parks Victoria, meeting with the council, and other local interest groups. With their hard work, we should see some trails opening up sooner, rather than later.
30.01.11 - Peninsula Mountain Bike Proposal
The trail development team have done some brilliant work and created the attached document. The idea is to begin with a broad plan such as the one attached to get the council and other relevant parties notified, and then to fill in the details and increase the resolution of the plan as we get more information. Click on the Front Cover to download the document.
23.01.11 - Blazing Saddles Results
Yesterdays event went off without a hitch. Thanks to all who made the effort to get out there and race on such a beautiful day. A big thankyou to all the volunteers that made the day possible as well as all the sponsors who made both the race, and the fund raising possible. The turn out was amazing and the fund raising was a big success. We will announce the final figure of funds raised and donated as soon as they become available.
